The Gelora Bung Karno Sports Complex is the largest and oldest sports complex in Jakarta and consists of several facilities including tennis stadiums, athletic tracks, football fields, aquatics stadium, hockey, baseball and archery fields, several indoor gymnasiums and the main 88,000 capacity national stadium, the crown jewel of the entire sports complex.

The Complex is built in 1962 and has played host to several regional sporting events such as the SEA Games in 1979, 1987, 1997 and 2011 and the Asian Games in 1962. It will also be the main sports complex to be used for Asian Games 2018.

In preparation for the Games, the Complex is currently undergoing redevelopment to modernize its various facilities and to upgrade them to world-class standards. The main stadium and swimming pool will undergo major renovations while the other facilities will be retrofitted with the latest equipment and technology.
